Yes, scoff at it! There is no
point in putting them into any normal deck, but
then, nearly all cards can be broken.
Cathodion, when played with
Atog and Megatog, is rather handy. You have
saved 3 mana for later, now all you have to do
is make sure it survives until your Atog's get
peckish. Some people reckon that protecting a
3/3 just so you’re
not going to take 3 damage is
– well
– pointless. And being
handy is not going to win you any games,
but the trick is, this is a refund you’re
getting for your Cathodion. Which could lead the
way to more Cathodion. And more. And more. And
– well you get the
idea.
Attack of the Cathodions - BR
This is an evil deck, nothing
more (but could be) and nothing less. Your
opponent will be facing very big and hungry
atogs, and tremble. For this deck, Cathodion is
a bit of a bad choice. If you really wanted to
be evil, you might be better off with Bottle
Gnomes (And the name of the deck would be
“Attack of the Gnomes”)
for gaining 3 life and returning them to hand
with Skeleton Shard.
Trash for Treasure allows you
to maximize Solemn Simulacrum’s
ability, as well as Cathodion’s
and the Disciple of the Vault. When cast, it
will give you either one land or 3 mana, and
then deal 1 damage to an opponent, and provided
that you sacrificed Solemn Simulacrum, draw a
card. Of course, you could always turn one of
the Artifact lands into Solemn Simulacrum or
Cathodion, or even Soul Foundry if you had to
dump it.
Another combo with Cathodion
is Dross Scorpion, This unlikely alliance is
rather useful, and somewhat budget-y.
1st turn : land
2nd turn : land - Atog
3rd turn : land
– Skeleton Shard
4th turn : land
– Dross Scorpion
5th turn : Soul Foundry
– Imprint Cathodion
6th turn : Cathodion token,
sacrifice it, Atog gets +2/+2, Artifact hit the
graveyard, Dross Scorpion untaps Soul Foundry,
Use 3 mana from the token to repeat.
At the end,
Use your mana to cast Megatog
7th turn : If you can, Grab
the Reins your ten trillion/ten trillion and one
Atog.
Otherwise,
just kill your opponent anyway with Megatog.
The thing I love about this
combo is that there is no infinite mana
involved. Infinite mana tends to get rather
tricky, If you can’t
spend it all, you die!
I don’t
want to be pessimistic or anything, but the
biggest flaw in this deck would be white. If you
had Leonin Elder, infinite Life! But then, your
opponent can use Hallow on the Grab the reins to
get infinite life for W (in which case you'll
swear at your opponent)
