Right-o. Although this is my first article and I am rather comparatively inexperienced, I will try my best to keep you lot interested.

Today we will look at normally ignored, bruised, and pushed aside (not to mention pretty much worthless) card Wirefly hive.

Wirefly Hive

Darksteel-Uncommon

3

Artifact

3, T: Flip a coin, If you win the flip, put one 2/2 Wirefly artifact creature token with flying into play. If you lose the flip, destroy all Wireflies.

While some people might have read the column in the Magic: The Gathering site (which I actively advise to look; its hilarious!) and know this cards secret brokenness, others who have not will laugh and think This is one screwed up card, Ha!. But if this couldn't be broken, I wouldn't be writing this. The usefulness of this lies on that tokes; their creature types are wirefly. And what set came out to manipulate these? Simple, Onslaught-Legions-Scourge. Now that we know its underlying power, lets get specific.

First, for you budget players out there; be happy. Darksteel comes with Uncommon killing machine; also known as Wirefly hive. Using Imagecrafter, which taps to turn target creatures creature type to another creature type of your choice (U 1/1 Creature-Wizard) , have ability to turn them into Wireflies. Now that you can see it, from your fourth turn, you have 1/2 chance of destroying target creature or getting a 2/2 flier token. Which seems kind of unfair to you opponent. But do we care? Nope. All we want to do is smash their face with whatever strategy you have while your wireflies are killing off their creatures.

l       Note: Artificial Evolution can also be used in place of / or with Imagecrafter. But be careful; you may screw up your plan if you use Artificial Evolution only once.

Another pain in the butt with the wireflies is that you can use standardize turn all creatures creature types to something you choose (UU Instant). Obviously, choose wirefly; and see the world pay for not giving you that 2/2 token (and laugh). This means for 3UU,  you just created a Wrath of God. Now, are you worried that your wireflies are going to die in this massacre? As I said, there are plenty of creature type changing things out there; just look carefully for them. You can even use Imagecrafters effect as a response!

For those who like old cards, heres a card that will throw you off Unnatural Selection(1U Enchantment 1: Choose a creature type other than Wall. Target creature's type becomes that type until end of turn) from Mercadian Masques.  See the unlimited possibilities. Be awed by them. And start to blow up the wireflies. If you do not have Wirefly hive on the play, you can still use this to turn your creature into Legend and opponents same creature in to Legend in order to remove it; but this wont happen that often. Being Enchantment, it is rather frail, so have a lot of counters ready. If you hit them right, they wont see anything but mass of 2/2 wireflies for a while.

Lets get off the Blue for a moment and look at other possibilities such as RED!

A Wirefly token being an artifact makes that scrumptious for red. Imagine. You just blew the world with standardize and saved your wireflies with Imagecrafter. Then you blow them up with shrapnel blast(1R instant Sacrifice an artifact as addition to casting cost Deal 5 damage to target creature or player) Theyll be wondering what hit them when their life gets down to -3.

Have you tried above methods and frustrated because Wireflies are just not strong enough? Well, I can fix that up for you. Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer sacrifices an artifact in order to make another indestructible. For three mana, you might get 2/2 flier Slobad material or blow up the world. Sound fun, doesn't it! Other possibilities are infinite search for them.

Another colour that is really fun with wirefly is GREEN.

Lets try Alpha Status. This card give +2/+2 for each other creature in play that shares a creature type with it. And if there aren't any, standardize them. This will work in any Green-Blue, but especially well with Wireflies. Your opponent suddenly faces a 2/2 flier that gets +2/+2 for each other creature in play - which is equivalent of conceding at most of the time.

This is just a taste of what is available with Wireflies. They have proven that they are determined terrorists threatening to blow up all creatures if they wont give another Wirefly. Oh, and by the way, you can use Krarks Thumb for another flip it gives you an extra flip. Until next time ( that is, if people liked this column ), start to BLOW UP THE WORLD!!!
